- Shenzhen population officially rated at 14 million. Less than 15% are Shenzhen hukou holders (i.e. official citizens of the city). 9 Million live in urban villages. 1 million live in factory dormitories. 14% of the population are unemployed.
- Malaysian gets death penalty for methamphetamine smuggling in SZ – caught at the airport. In 2006, seven foreigners were caught in SZ with illegal drugs.
- Shenzhen urban administrtion monitoring center monitors traffic jams and other transport issues, and solves them 97% of the time.
- SZ to introduce London-style congestion charge for cars. 1 million registered cars within SZ as well as an estimated 200,000 registered vehicles from other areas.
- Border crossing process to be simplified by removing unnecessary form filling, maybe.
- Chinese currently mailing more than 100 tons of mooncakes a day out of Shenzhen back to hometowns and overseas. More than 970 tons of mooncakes imported into SZ in the past few weeks.
- Dangerous monkey caught in Lianhua park after biting woman.
- “Crackdown on rich flouting one child rule.” Fine for additional children increased to 680,000RMB for families with income over 300,000/ yr. Families who break the policy will get black marks on their credit records.

- China top auditor publishes report revealing government offices misappropriated almost 7 billion RMB and mismanaged a further 37 billion. Budgetary loopholes in 49 central departments in 2006, including the top state-owned asset supervisor and China’s top economic planning body.
